We are deeply saddened by the loss of Alexei Navalny, a prominent figure whose life and work have left an indelible mark on our world. In his honor, we are hosting a one-time event featuring the Oscar-winning documentary film “Navalny” (2022). As the event is solely intended for educational purposes, there are specific limitations and restrictions in place*.
The film is introduced by Andrey Makarychev, a Professor of Regional Political Studies at the University of Tartu Johan Skytte Institute of Political Studies. The film’s introduction delves into Russia’s international and domestic suppression of opposition, highlighting incidents like poisonings and covert operations abroad. It prompts reflection on Russia’s escalating actions and the need to anticipate unforeseen developments
Makarychev teaches courses on “Globalization”, “Political Systems in post-Soviet Space”, “Regional Integration in post-Soviet Space”, “Visual Politics”, and “The Essentials of Biopolitics”. He has authored and co-authored several books on topics like biopolitics and political systems in the post-Soviet space. Additionally, he has co-edited academic volumes on international relations and events in post-Soviet Eurasia.
